Authorization
To work as a dentist in Denmark you will need to get an authorization from the Danish Board of Health. We will assist you in retrieving the relevant documents.
Generel working conditions
Generally, employees are expected to work 37 hours per week.
You have five or six weeks of paid holiday per year and also free from work on your child's first sick day.
How will you be paid?
Initially, you will probably be offered a position as an employed dentist with the intention of a partnership/shared ownership of the clinic within two to three years. Naturally, once you become an partner/owner your salary will increase considerably - Dentists are among the highest earners in Denmark, especially considering the comparatively short working week of 37 hours.
Though you would be able to find higher salaries outside of Denmark, your income will allow you to lead a comfortable life with an attractive work/life balance. For details about a basic wage estimate for an employed dentist, see below (please note that all figures are guidelines only):
Basic salary, employee: (est.) DDK 50,000 (est. EURO 6,720) per month. Taxes are around 40% and living cost are 30-40% higher than in Hungary.
Pension: In private practices pension schemes will differ. Typically one must expect that pension is self-financed but tax-deductible.
Holiday pay: You will receive your full salary during the annual six-week obligatory holiday. However, the holiday pay is only available after the first full year of employment.
General compensation
Normal overtime: Normally either compensated with time off or salary with a bonus of 25%-50% depending on your contract.
Is there a collective agreement concerning salary and compensation?
No, your terms of employment are a matter between you and your employer. The Danish Dentists’ Association (Tandlægeforeningen) can assist you. However, bear in mind that there are quite specific laws governing employment which will always guarantee your terms (for instance regarding holidays).
Settlement assistance
Before starting your new job, there will be a six-month training period. During your entire training period you will receive financial compensation to ensure that your everyday financial needs are met. Thus you can fully focus on the training and education without having to worry about paying your bills.
We also provide those dentists living a long distance from Budapest with accommodation in Budapest. This means that you can live near the training facilities without extra expenditure.
